MUNCHI - BAILE FUNK PROMO
SELEGNA RECORDS | [SEL-PR003]

░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░

This was one of the first in a long line of free EP's in different genres and consisted of tracks in one of my favorite of them - Baile Funk. This EP didn't have a writeup at all, due to the learning process I found myself in to figure out how to promote my shit. So I'll just share some stuff about this project. After completely falling in love with everything that made Baile Funk and obsessively listening to it literally every day, I wanted to keep the tracks short and simple without compromising any of the rawness you would find in Funk. Especially since the tracks were made in the same program the Funkeiros would fuck with, I could figure out in no time what they used. Without compromising any of the essences that made Baile Funk I gave it a lil twist in the form of sampling my own influences in the Funk way. At the time it was really being hyped up and the internet was full of shitty "Baile Funk" tracks by artists that didn't even care to learn about the culture. Disappointed in the way it was being exploited I tried to share this lil promo by giving thanks and respects in the only way I knew - in the form of music.

"Bota Dedim Pro Alto"

Damn this was my shit lol. Constantly on repeat, repeat and repeat.
After Reggeton's base Dembow beat, the Volt was on repeat too. Over and over again. This becoming my personal 'Tira Camisa' track and basically a Volt appreciation track lol. Using all the classic variation of the 808 Volt beat you could see this as a freestyle Montagem. Kinda like them b-boys tagging eachother off and having a go after each variation. It's literally straight up the base beat with several tiny variations seperating them. Since it was supposed to be a freestyle, I made it in a way as if I was on the MPC fucking with it live on stage @ Furacao 2000. Bought an MPC though, but after a while I figured out that I completely sucked at it and dedicated to Funk production only lol.

"Ruas Da Grecia"

Just Youtubing for the sake of it, I found myself checking out the most random shit. Discovering so much cool stuff! In one of these episodes I was also in a phase that I wanted to know more about EU cinema or basically anything BUT Hollywood movies. Then I checked out all these cool ass old Greek movies and that's how I got to this. I kept rewinding this piece and already was building a Funk in my head. How would a Funk track be able to fit as background music to chill out, without compromising it was the criteria for this. It kinda worked out I guess lol! Caballo jumped on the vocals for this track's VIP after right after hearing it too. Since he was one of the first to put me out there on the blogs, it was only fitting to make this happen!

"Vira A Cara Pra Parede"

The Baile Funk pontos contained a lot of accordeon. My favorite.
A lot of them were the most known melodies probably ripped of off them P2P networks like Limewire or Kazaa back in the day.
Since I didn't want to just use the tried loops and simply imitate it, I digged for some fitting samples myself that wouldn't do under for the samples that were in style back then. Also experimenting with making several personal Tamborzao variations, this became one of my first Baile Funk tracks I made and the first one of this promo.

"Chamada 0906-Putaria"

In Holland we got a lot of annoying commercials. If you make music, you tend to stay up all night and when the TV is still on you get to know the most ridiculous commercials known to mankind. Yes, I'm talking about the sex commercials. The 0906-XXX call. Some of them are so ignorant and obnoxious that they are fucking hilarious. So that was the basic thought behind this track, not serious and just plain annoying. Same with the putaria tracks in Baile Funk though lol. When you realize what they saying after learning enough Portuguese due to the amount of Baile Funk listening hours - you'll laugh your ass off.

"Cachorrada"

Don't you just love the way Funk tracks start? No? Fuck you then.
It's fucking insane! You'll be in the club like OMG JUST PLAY THE BEAT B0SS PLZ ;_; lol. Torrada influenced obviously with them Os Ousados vocals - they weren't fucking around. Here it's obviously fucking around with the Baile Funk template of a track. I love it man. Fuck a EDM intro-build-drop-meh-hateyouself-shitfuck formula. Everything else is basically 3827897389 times more interesting nywayzzz.

"Pikachu Anthem"

Lol, this was so fucking fun to make! I had these all these different Pikachu sounds and I was like fuck it. Let's do this shit haha! We all know the Pikachu classic in Funk by one of the biggest, but I added a thin Dutch House synth to it to add to the troll levelz and annoyments of you all having this stuck in your head. HA-HA-HA *having an evil masterplan laugh*. Also if you notice people staring at you when you sing along to this track while strolling around in the favela's, it's probably caused by the fact that you are just casually singing the word 'dick' in kuduro rhythm. Who would've thought lol.

"Seducao Montagem"

You remember 'The Ultimate Seduction'? Well I do and its not caused by the original. In Holland there was this Bubbling version that was very big. Not only that, it was huge because of Def Rhymz version 'Ze Zitten Me Achterna'. If using samples of my own influences, you know this fucking alarm had to be in there. I always wanted to remix this and here I finally did in Baile Funk.

"Colombia Montagem"

There was a time that Yung Munch was in love and really into Vallenato, caused by le Colombiana that made Yung Munch all TUTUYYYY. I was completely obsessed by it and that of course influenced my music back then. Here Vallenato's finest gets a Baile Funk facelift, but when Funkeiros talking about 'Tipo Colombia' they ain't talking about love though. So I thought it would be funny to use that Vallenato lyfe and bless the track with some rare accordeon on a track that has nothing to do with Colombia at all lol. You can't fuck with the Vallenato accordeon though - FUCK!! This was also one of the first Funk tracks I made!

"Baile Pega Fogo"

I FUCKING LOVE 'Baile Lotadao'. So what I did here was make it even heavier and blessed it with the heaviest Tamborzao to date. Shit lasted to fucking short of a time sadly, but still - it's INSANE. Still my favorite, so heavy and different than anything else. I wish they still used it. The stab synth that you hear isn't even a synth. It's a very tiny sample of a shitty German marching band recording. Sometimes you find the best sounds in the weirdest places lol. I still fuck with this track man, probably my favorite on this promo! This track blasting in the baile, all guns in the air outta appreciation. YES.

"Ex e Sempre Ex"

Bruh, nothing in the whole wide world can fuck with 'Careless Whisper'. No, nothing at all. I haven't sampled it enough anyways after 8923789327 times - THE BEST!!! Added MC Katia's lyrics on the vocals to complete the track and even a rare Munchi beatbox appearance lol. Also one of my favorites, because come on, who is even capable to resist that 'Careless Whisper' lyfe? hahaha!

"Coracão Apaixonado"

Ay chu, sentimientooooo munchitoooo for the le special someone. A bit slower that usual Baile Funk, but I like to think that it added to the tracks smoothness. Mc Marcinho on the vocals of course with his 'Rap Do Solitario' and that 90's R&B flavor really matched with eachother.

"Mojito Montagem"

Damn, what made that Mojito song so fucking addictive tho lol?! I freaked the fuck out when first hearing it on that commercial lol. Obviously only the vocals of Bonde do Bacardi would be appropriate and Lana as a Jeny La Voz on the track worked out perfectly.
