Hey!

I present to you, a little time capsule out of the early 00's - the OG Startpagina Bubbling sample pack! Since it isn't available anymore, let me reintroduce it once again:

Back in the early 2000’s you had a website called Startpagina in the Netherlands. It was exactly what the name states and well it functioned kinda like a Google too, with each subject having it’s own little sub-page.

At the time my brother just got me my first program to make music, called Acid. I started looking for some Bubbling tracks to download on these early Dutch versions of MySpace and eventually I ended up at the Startpagina’s own page on Bubbling.

There my attention immediately went to the part listing "Bubbling samples". So I downloaded these things:

And started to make something without any knowledge of what the fuck I was doing. It resulted in a horrendous Ivy Queen vs. Mr. Vegas Drum and Bass / Bubbling mashup. I fucking loved it!

Fastforward to 2011 when I found myself crashing at the Mad Decent studio and was checking out the samples. Noticing that the original source was gone and Bubbling was more unpopular than ever, I wrote a post in dedication to the genre on the influential Generation Bass blog. Included were 10 tracks that meant a lot to me as a producer (to inspire) and this sample pack. The post far exceeded my expectations and the loops spread like wildfire. To my absolute joy I heard the contents on various productions and samples over the years, as such was the intent.

Sadly the Generation Bass site is no more and the post is gone, but I found an old mp3 that still had it’s original .zip file.

So here we are now in 2022 and it marks the packs 20th year in my possesion haha! As if it were a little ‘00 time capsule. Is it kinda crazy to make such a big deal about it? Probably. I just felt like I should share this again to keep it online.

Bandcamp does not allow the files to be in it’s original .zip format. The filenames intact tho and the original extra layer of lo-res MP3 rendering kept bring the crudely cut loops as close as it gets. You can even pretend being extra sophisticated with the choice of an unnecessary .flac or .wav file upgrade!
